Trim Your Waste - Could your business PROFIT from reduced packaging?
21/08/2008 - 25/09/2008

Select Lincolnshire Business Advice Seminar

9.30am - 12.30pm , 24th September 2008

The Epic Centre, Lincoln

The answer is most likely to be YES!  In an increasingly uncertain economic climate Lincolnshire businesses need to examine all their costs and identify potential savings.  Packaging may not be an obvious area for cost reduction, however the savings can be considerable both financially and in terms of environmental impact.  According to the President of the European Union the time is right for businesses to see 'the environment as a real business opportunity rather than an unwelcome diversion'.

For this reason Select Lincolnshire, in partnership with Lincolnshire Trading Standards, are pleased to present a comprehensive packaging seminar aimed at Lincolnshire food, drink, agricultural and horticultural businesses.

Mark Shayler from environmental programme Envirowise, will present a lively and informative insight into resource efficient packaging and how to save money whilst reducing your environmental impact.    Envirowise is a Government-funded programme dedicated to putting the sustainable use of resources at the heart of UK business practice.  It offers businesses of all sizes and sectors a wide range of free, independent and practical advice designed to genuinely improve their processes, profitability and competitiveness.    As a result, since its launch in 1994, Envirowise has helped UK businesses save well over £1Bn by enabling them to significantly reduce their environmental impact.

Attendees will also hear from Lincolnshire County Council Trading Standards about the  Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2003.  Under the Regulations, businesses, (amongst other requirements) have to minimise the amount of packaging that they use.  Trading Standards will give a presentation on these rules and how businesses can comply. This should lead to reducing the risk of prosecution and may also have the potential to make cost savings.

Finally, Hayley Bury of Select Lincolnshire will speak about effectively incorporating the Select Lincolnshire branding onto packaging.

There will be ample opportunity to ask advice from the experts.  The event will conclude with a buffet lunch, networking opportunity and optional tour of the Epic Centre.

To book your place please contact Helen Scott on telephone (01522) 550593 or alternatively e-mail mailto:helen.scott@lincolnshire.gov.uk .  Please respond by Friday 5th September 2008.
